The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has devalued the Naira to N631 to the US dollar from N461.6 that it sold at the so-called “Investors and Exporters FX Window,” the Daily Trust reported on June 1. But shortly after the report, a tweet from the CBN’s handle denied the report.

The devaluation came after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu unveiled his plans of the federal government to unify the country’s exchange rate to stimulate the Nigerian economy, the report said.

The I&E FX Window is the market trading segment for investors, exporters and endusers allowing for FX trades. The window was established by the central bank in 2017. In Nigeria, the black market rate averaged N730/$1 on average, while the I&E window pegged around N447, according to the Daily Trust.

The Daily Trust is run by privately-held Media Trust based in Abuja, Nigeria.
